Arizona AHEC Scholars Program

Description

The Arizona AHEC Scholars Program is a multidisciplinary certificate program for certain health professions students that offers opportunities for hands-on training, experience in rural and underserved communities, and networking with other students and professionals. Core topic areas covered in the curriculum include: Interprofessional education, behavioral health integration, connecting communities and supporting health professionals, virtual learning and telehealth, social determinants of health, cultural competency, practice transformation, and current and emerging health issues.

Program Goals

The goal of this grant is to provide health professional students opportunities for hands-on training and experiences in rural and underserved communities. 

Eligibility 

This program requires a 2-year commitment and consists of 80 hours per year of didactic and community experiential learning in addition to the regular coursework required by the degree program. Eligible students include medical, nurse practitioner, pharmacy, physical therapy, physician assistant, and public health students who have applied for or are currently enrolled in their college's Rural Health Professions Program.

Funding Information

Funding provided by Arizona Area Health Education Center Program. Participants are eligible to receive a total of $2,000 in stipends over 2 years.
