Dignity Health Graduate Medical Education Program
Program Description
To address Arizona’s critical physician workforce shortage and meet the healthcare demands of the rapidly growing community in the East Valley Dignity Health has expanded its graduate medical education program. The program has received accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, will provide high-quality training to medical graduates in general surgery, internal medicine, and family medicine. It is expected to grow to include 126 medical residents by 2028 and includes residents in emergency medicine and OB/GYN.
Program Goals and Impacts
This program aims to address physician shortages by increasing the number of students who can enter programs in Arizona. The residency program will be driven by the latest innovations in medicine, technology, and research.
Funding Information
Graduate Medical Education (GME) funds are distributed to hospitals that provide training and education for medical school graduates. This training includes internships, residencies and fellowships. GME funds are either designated to cover direct medical education expenses or indirect medical education expenses.
