Expansion of Behavioral Health Workforce Training

Program Description

This program expands the behavioral health curriculum and pays for salaries, benefits, training, related expenses, and operational costs necessary to increase the number of qualified behavioral health education faculty members teaching in degree and certificate programs operated or overseen by the Maricopa County Community College District and the Navajo County Community College District. The program aims to pay for tuition, fees, and related educational expenses of eligible students enrolling in behavioral health programs.

Program Goals and Impacts

The goal of this grant is to expand behavioral health curriculum in Arizona, to increase the number of qualified behavioral health providers. This program specifically focuses on Maricopa County and Navajo County. This program has increased the number of students programs accept and therefore increases the number of behavioral health providers.

Funding Information

The program entails $5 million administered by The Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS). Funding will be distributed by the end of the 2024/2025 fiscal year. 

Program Sustainability 

To attain sustainability capacity is needed to interest healthcare providers and others to enter the behavioral health field. 

Sustainability Challenges

Challenges to sustainability may include:

Fiscal resources available to offer loans by facilities.

Establishment of recruitment programs at the facility level.
