Increasing Practice Readiness of New Graduate Nurses Program
Program Description
The Increasing Practice Readiness of New Graduate Nurses is a Maricopa County-specific program. The pilot program was successfully completed in 2022, with over fifty nursing students from three nursing schools and sixty-three trained preceptors from six healthcare organizations. The pilot included online preceptor training to prepare nurse preceptors to work with students.
Program Goals and Impacts
The Increasing Practice Readiness of New Graduate Nurses aims to decrease new nurse turnover rates and burnout. Outcomes of the pilot program included preceptors reporting an increase in self-efficacy, satisfaction, and growth as a preceptor. Employers reported an increase in preceptor engagement and more students being transitioned into employees. The plan over the next four years includes expanding to 1,800 nursing students with over 2,000 trained preceptors and more practice partners and nursing schools. A sustainability program needs to be created for when the program ends.
Funding Information
The program runs from fiscal years 2022/2023 through 2026/2027. $4.3 million will be administered over the course of these four years.
